Seventh tier side Matlock Town have confirmed that Championship title hopefuls Leeds United have taken promising defender Ashton Hall on a trial ahead of a prospective transfer deal.

The Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit confirmed on their official website that the Whites had welcomed the 18-year-old to training ground Thorp Arch over the last week, training with the under-23 side and playing for the under-18s as the second tier club run the rule over a potential swoop for his capture.

Matlock have produced a number of promising talents in recent years with Max Hunt and Zak Brunt also moving to Championship sides, Hall having made 10 senior appearances for his current club.

Opinion

Leeds are always on the look out for a future talent and it seems as though they have high hopes for Hall. Victor Orta might not have had the best success when it comes to first team signings but he has done excellently when it comes to recruiting for the under-23s since his arrival, with the likes of Aapo Halme and Leif Davis making an impact when they have been asked to step up to the senior side. The amount of highly rated talent coming through the system at Thorp Arch has to be applauded and it is so exciting for Leeds fans to know that they have tomorrow’s stars just waiting for their breakthrough. Jack Clarke has been exceptional and while someone like Hall will not steal the limelight like the winger as a defender, there is no reason he cannot go on to become just as important a player in the near future if he does end up making a move to Elland Road. Will that be in the Premier League or the Championship though?
