Leeds will find out what punishment, if any, they are to face after the spygate scandal next week, according to Jim White.

Talking on The Jim White Show on talkSPORT (Friday, 10am), White claimed he had just heard that the spygate investigation was high on the EFL agenda of their board meeting next week.

“Just before I came on air I heard this about spygate and Leeds,” White said.

“It hasn’t gone away. Very briefly, for those of you who don’t know, Derby County were very annoyed that Leeds United had sent an employee to watch Derby Country training. He was watching or spying on the training.

“It’s not over yet. 11 other Championship clubs complained about it formally to the EFL.

“Next week, I understand, it’s high on the agenda of the EFL board meeting. What they do will depend on their appetite. If there was one complaint that would be one thing, but there’s been 11 complaints. We’ll find out what they’re going to do next week.”

OPINION

Leeds will be glad to put the whole sorry spygate incident behind them. It’s such a non issue it’s incredible it’s still rolling on but it sounds like Leeds will find out what punishment they’re going to get for breaking a rule that didn’t exist next week. It’s possible that the EFL do the right thing and just censure Leeds, warning them about future conduct in the spirit of the game. If they really want to go further they could announce a new law, but with training grounds visible to the public, this would be really hard to enforce. One thing we’re almost certain about is that they won’t suffer a points deduction. There’s been no appetite for this from anyone bar the Bristol City owner and it would open a legal minefield for the EFL. Leeds are top of the league because they’re the best team, not because of watching any opponents train.
