Leeds United may look again at signing Daniel James in the summer after he spent last weekend in Yorkshire following his deadline-day transfer collapse, according to Phil Hay.

Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post, the correspondent claimed the deal fell apart over the payment of a £1.5million loan fee as United tried to negotiate a deal worth a further £7million and that would have become permanent if they had been promoted at the end of the season.

Hay explains the transfer could still be resurrected, even though James is back in training at Swansea this week after missing Swansea’s 2-0 defeat at Bristol City on Saturday.

OPINION

James went public yesterday to state he will give everything for Swansea in the second half of the season after the pain of his failed move to Elland Road. The transfer collapsed after he had completed a medical, agreed terms and was left waiting at Elland Road to sign the paperwork before talks between the clubs collapsed. There is a sense that James’ interview with the Swansea website is a PR device aimed at smoothing over the cracks in a relationship between player and club that threatens their hopes of getting the best from the winger for the second half of the campaign. His body may be in Wales, but is his heart elsewhere, notably the west Yorkshire city where he was so eager to take the next steps in his immensely promising career only a few days ago? It is certainly encouraging for Leeds and their supporters that this transfer can be resurrected.
