Ajax want up to £29.9million for Tottenham target Andre Onana, according to De Telegraaf.

The Dutch newspaper claims that Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham and even Barcelona are in the hunt to sign the 22-year-old goalkeeper, who has been a mainstay for Ajax this season by earning 37 appearances across all competitions.

It is understood that the Amsterdam club’s director of football Marc Overmars has suggested that the 6ft 4 (transfermarkt) colossus is not for sale, but the Dutch giants would consider offloading him if someone offered up to £29.9million.

Onana and his team-mates at the Johan Cruyff Arena have some big games on the horizon, starting with a Dutch Cup clash against Feyenoord on Wednesday night before the second-leg of their Champions League last-16 showdown with Real Madrid next week.

Good move for Tottenham?

Spurs will more than likely need a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window with Michel Vorm’s contract expiring at the end of the season, especially as Mauricio Pochettino likes to have three senior goalkeepers to choose from.

However Hugo Lloris is surely going to remain as No 1 no matter who is bought to replace Vorm, so spending almost £30million on Onana would be a bad piece of business by Tottenham.

Onana is a good shot-stopper, but it is only worth spending that sort of money on him unless he is going to be first-choice – which he won’t be in North London.

Likely to happen?

Daniel Levy will never sanction a spend of almost £30million on a player who is hardly going to play.

Spurs have Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga as second-choice, so they do not need to spend that much money on a replacement for Vorm.

In fact it will be more likely that Spurs offer Vorm an extension than splashing the cash on Onana.
