OPINION
It has been a difficult 10 days for Leeds United fans as an ominously worrying start to the transfer window has followed three consecutive defeats, ending in an FA Cup exit at the first stage last weekend. A blizzard of loan exits have followed, most notably that of Lewis Baker, who Marcelo Bielsa wanted to keep, while the manager sounded very irritable at his media conference on Wednesday as he revealed the club were not close to signing the goalkeeper and playmaker he is seeking. Speculation from overseas, led by journalist Jon Mackenzie on his personal Twitter account, is now suggesting Leeds United are in hot pursuit of the Dutch Eredivisie’s second leading scorer Fran Sol. He said MLS outfit Real Salt Lake were set to sign the centre-forward until a last-minute change of heart amid interest from the Yorkshire giants. This has certainly got United fans talking on social media. Sol has a near goal-a-game scoring record this season, with 17 goals from 20 matches in all competitions, and only Luuk De Jong has netted more times in the Dutch Eredivisie. The Spaniard could be a very exciting January capture for the promotion chasers, as some are point out on social media.
