Swansea City are in talks to sell Daniel James to Leeds United, it has been confirmed.

The Welsh club’s manager Graham Potter revealed for the first time at lunchtime on Monday, as quoted by BBC Radio Leeds correspondent Adam Pope, that James could join United by Thursday’s transfer cut-off.

Potter explained “everything is in theory possible” and that “we’ll keep on talking unto the deadline” in three days’ time.

OPINION

This is a huge development. Potter has previously downplayed the prospect of James leaving the Liberty Stadium this month, and expressed his confidence in holding on to the player. Now, he has opened the door to Leeds clinching what would be their second major signing of the window. the club have been strongly linked to James over the last couple of weeks, as they aim to reinforce a squad that has been stretched by a series of serious injuries to key players. The attack has looked light in recent times, despite the immense impact made by teenage sensation Jack Clarke. Like Clarke, James has his best years ahead of him and would need time to adapt to Leeds’ style of play and the exact needs of manager Marcelo Bielsa. Crucially, the Argentine has made it clear behind the scenes that he wants James, and a deal looks likely than ever, although the fact negotiations could continue until deadline day means there could be some tense moments ahead.
