Aston Villa look set to miss out on the bargain signing of midfielder Nemanja Radoja from Celta Vigo in a fresh twist due to the rules regarding work permits in England, according to Eldesmarque.

The Spanish news outlet claim on their website that the Villans had agreed to a deal in principle to take the 25-year-old Croatian international to the Championship in a cut price deal, the two cap talent out of contract at the end of the season.

It is stated that there are a number of factors over the Croat’s signing, including number of international appearances and the fee being spent by the Villans, which make it unlikely that he would pass the requirements set out to play in England.

Opinion

Not the news that Dean Smith or the Villa faithful wanted to hear. The manager must have thought he had found an absolute bargain to help bolster his side this season but due to the fact he is a Croatian international, and thus not part of the European Union’s free movement agreement, it is going to be really difficult for the Villans to get this one over the line. After the summer’s financial struggles you can understand why Smith and his transfer team are looking to make the most of their money in the transfer window and so Radoja would have ticked most, if not all, the boxes required. Only time will tell whether the Villans can manage to pull off a u-turn and get him into the club but at the moment things are not looking hopeful. It will be fascinating to see who exactly is next on Smith’s list of targets, or whether Radoja was a one off thanks to his bargain price tag.
