Leeds United are still in the hunt for Daniel James as Swansea City look to milk the most amount of money for his capture, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post writer, one of the most reputable reporters covering events at Elland Road, claims on his personal Twitter account that despite the Sunday Sun (27/01, P63) claiming that there is a £12million asking price on his head that Leeds are still chasing the winger’s capture, hinting that there is a sense of brinkmanship between the clubs.

Leeds have been linked heavily with a move for the Swans’ star this season as Marcelo Bielsa looks to strengthen his options out wide and Hay’s key update on their pursuit will give fans belief a deal can be done.

Opinion

Swansea might well ask for £12million but there is absolutely no way that anyone is going to pay that amount of money for his capture. It is simply an inflated starting price to give the Welsh outfit the strongest possible position in negotiations and the fee they will likely accept for his exit will be some way below the current fee being reported. It is good to hear that Leeds have not given up hope of his capture, for they do really need a new creative force up front and that is exactly what Bielsa is hoping to bring in with James. With less than a week to go until the transfer window shuts these negotiations and discussions are going to have to be taken to the next level if a move is going to take place. Have the Whites left it too late? Only time will tell – but the closer it gets to deadline day the more power Swansea will have over demanding a hefty price for his exit.
