Leeds United attacker Mallik Wilks has extended his loan stay with Doncaster Rovers, it has been confirmed.

The Whites announced via their official Twitter account and official website on Tuesday morning that Wilks, 20, has signed a new deal that extends his stay at Elland Road until June 2022.

The 6ft tall (transfermarkt) winger will now remain at Doncaster for the rest of the season.

OPINION

Wilks was never likely to get into Leeds’ first team if he returned to Elland Road this month, so it makes a lot of sense to reach a new agreement with Doncaster because he is playing regularly at the Keepmoat. In all competitions this season, Wilks has made 30 appearances for Rovers, scoring eight goals and supplying five assists in the process. It is very encouraging to see the 20-year-old getting himself on the scoresheet regularly in League One, which is perhaps why the club has decided to extend his contract. Wilks may not ever get into the Leeds senior squad, but at least his transfer value has been preserved by him penning a deal. If he continues his fine form at Doncaster for the rest of the campaign then there may be interest in signing him permanently in the summer from one of Leeds’ Championship rivals. This is a clever piece of business all around.
