West Ham are enjoying good progress in their talks with Celta Vigo to sign centre-forward Maxi Gomez, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solkehol.

The reporter claimed on Sky Sports News on Friday afternoon that the 22-year-old has been described as the new Luis Suarez and could eventually be a player that is worth £100million.

Gomez has scored nine goals and supplied five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season and it is understood that he could be a very exciting signing for West Ham if they are able to strike a deal.

“West Ham have been in talks with Celta Vigo about signing Maxi Gomez,” said Solkehol on Sky Sports News on Friday [05:03pm].

“We’re told today, by somebody who is in those talks, that the talks are progressing very, very well.

“What do we know about Maxi Gomez? Well, one source has described him as the new Luis Suarez.

“He’s Uruguayan, he plays for Celta Vigo, he’s scored a lot of goals this season. He’s supposed to be clinical, very strong, good target man, very fast.

“We are being told that he is potentially a £100million player.”

Good move for West Ham?

If Gomez is as good as what Solkehol’s sources have told him, then West Ham fans have every right to be excited by these transfer claims.

The Uruguayan is still quite young and is playing very well in Spain and he should be able to transfer that form over into the Premier League if the Hammers are able to strike a deal.

If he is potentially a £100million player, as described by the Sky Sports journalist, then the Irons need to pull off these deal as soon as possible, especially because Marko Arnautovic’s future is so uncertain at the moment.

Gomez could be a massive upgrade on the Austrian, who appeared to be waving goodbye to West Ham fans last week.

Likely to happen?

Talks appear to be going well between West Ham and Celta Vigo, which is obviously a very good sign.

This deal may hinge on whether or not Arnautovic leaves the London Stadium this month, so fans should be hoping that happens because Gomez is a much more exciting prospect than the ex-Stoke forward, who has been plagued by injuries this season.
