West Ham have had a new bid worth £39.2million for striker Krzysztof Piatek rejected by Genoa, according to Calcio News 24.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Hammers have met what AC Milan are offering their Serie A rivals for the Poland international, but it is too late for the London club with Milan now close to a deal.

It is understood that West Ham had an opening offer of £30.9million rejected by Genoa and even though they have upped their bid, Piatek remains out of their reach.

Good move for West Ham?

Piatek would be a great addition for West Ham if Marko Arnautovic or Javier Hernandez leaves the London Stadium this month.

The 23-year-old has been in stunning form for Genoa signing joining them last summer, scoring 19 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions for the Italian club.

You get the feeling that the Hammers may be offering too much money for Piatek though as, according to Polish news outlet Sportowe Fakty, Genoa paid just £3.5million to sign him from Cracovia Krakow last year.

Why don’t West Ham try more low-cost risks like that? It could really pay-off to unearth a hidden gem like Genoa did when they signed Piatek.

Likely to happen?

AC Milan appear to have beaten West Ham in the race for Piatek’s signature, judging by this report.

If the Irons are willing to meet Genoa’s valuation of the player and they still get rejected, then what hope is there?

It seems like the move to take the Poland international to the San Siro is too far down the line to turn back now.
