West Ham have tabled a bid worth £31million for Genoa centre-forward Krzysztof Piatek, according to Corriere dello Sport reporter Alfredo Pedulla.

The reliable journalist has claimed via his personal website that the Hammers’ offer has been rejected as the Serie A club want a deal worth up to £40million before they consider cashing in on the 23-year-old Poland international.

It is understood that Piatek earns just £440,000-a-year on his deal at Genoa.

AC Milan are also said to be interested in signing the in-form striker and are prepared to offer him a deal worth four times more than his current agreement.

Good move for West Ham?

Piatek has been in the form of his career over the last 12 months.

He joined Genoa in the summer off the back of a superb season with Cracovia Krakow, when he scored 21 goals in 38 total games.

Since joining the Italian side, he has continued that run of form by netting 19 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.

Even though Genoa are 14th in Serie A, Piatek keeps on banging in the goals and West Ham would surely be onto a winner if they are able to lure him to the London Stadium this month amid fears over Marko Arnautovic’s future.

Likely to happen?

Genoa have rejected a very big bid by West Ham, and it’s hard to see the London club tabling a bigger offer at this stage in the January transfer window.

Not many big deals have been completed so far, but clubs get a bit more frantic towards the end of the month.

Piatek could be a target for the Hammers, but it’s hard to see the Premier League side meeting Genoa’s £40million asking price.
