Stuart Pearce has weighed in on the spygate scandal surrounding Leeds with perhaps one of the most incredible suggestions yet.

Talking on The Debate show on Sky Sports, Pearce said he would reverse the 2-0 scoreline between Leeds and Derby from their recent Championship game.

This comes after Marcelo Bielsa sent the football world into a tailspin by admitting that he sent an employee down to watch Derby train.

No crime was committed but the EFL and FA have said they are investigating.

“If it was me, the only team that’s been affected by this is Derby, I’d reverse the scoreline,” Pearce said.

“I like let the punishment fit the crime. That statement fits this perfectly. If you sent someone all the way down to stand outside Derby and then after the game you said, yes I sent him down, well okay, you won 2-0 at derby, it affected Derby, it’s not in the spirit of the game.”

Pearce was then asked if he honestly believed that the game and the result was down to the “man in the bushes”.

“No, not at all,” he replied.

OPINION

The madness of some of the pundits working in the UK laid bare. Pearce admits that the Leeds employee watching the Derby game had no effect on the result whatsoever, calls for a ‘punishment fits the crime’ and then calls for a result to be reversed that would have wide-reaching implications on the Championship title race. In fact, the only crime he says that Leeds have committed is a spurious “not in the spirit of the game”. It just shows that he’s either not qualified to sit on this sort of show, or that he’s deliberately being provocative to get eyeballs. Either way, it’s just stupid. The fact that the EFL has said it’s investigating shows how crazy the game is in this country. Nothing is done about cheating that occurs every week in front of the Sky Sports cameras – diving, pulling back opponents in the box – yet the EFL will look to punish Leeds for watching a training session from a public place. You have to laugh, or else you’d cry.
