West Ham have agreed terms to sign Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi as they edge closer to signing the 25-year-old on loan, according to Guardian deputy news editor Ed Aarons.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Real Betis have also reached an agreement to sign the Belgium international on a temporary deal, with the Premier League striker currently still on loan at Valencia.

It is understood that unless there is a late offer from Everton, the player will make a decision on his future shortly.

Batshuayi is yet to be officially recalled by Chelsea but he has not been named in any of Valencia’s last three matchday squads in La Liga.

Good move for West Ham?

Since joining Valencia on loan in the summer, Batshuayi has failed to replicate the form that he showed during his temporary stint at Borussia Dortmund at the end of last term.

Valencia have endured a poor season and Batshuayi has only scored three goals in 23 total appearances for them.

He could prove to be a good signing for West Ham though as it could just be the case that he isn’t suited to the style of football that Valencia play or his team-mates aren’t providing him with enough chances.

Batshuayi scored nine goals in 14 games for Dortmund last term – that’s the Batshuayi that the Hammers want.

Likely to happen?

West Ham are not the only club interested in Batshuayi.

It seems Real Betis and Everton could both beat the Irons to the punch, but given the fact that he has struggled in Spain, you could probably rule out a move to Betis.

Everton are the ones that West Ham need to worry about – they need a centre-forward desperately.
