The Wolves deal for Rubin Kazan striker Sardar Azmoun is ‘dead’ according to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett.

He claimed that a £1.75million loan fee and an £11.5million transfer fee had been agreed but the deal fell down on one detail.

Wolves would only agree to an option to buy and Rubin Kazan wanted it to be an obligation.

However, with the player still in Russia, Wolves had no chance of doing a medical.

Talking on Sky Sports live on Thursday (Sky Sports, 11.40am), Dorsett added that there was no way Wolves would agree to an obligation to buy without doing a full medical.

Dorsett made his claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday morning.

OPINION

As Dorsett said, this looks dead, which is a blow to Wolves and to Azmoun, who seemingly won’t be making his dream Premier League move now. There could be a possibility of a reprieve if Rubin Kazan change their mind over the obligation, but Dorsett seems convinced that this won’t be the case. This means that Wolves will be on the lookout for another striker, with the clock ticking on deadline day. It’s going to be tough to get anyone else in now, but there’s still time for something dramatic to happen and with the wrangling about the option/obligation going on all of yesterday, Wolves may have a Plan B up their sleeve. Leo Bonatini is being linked with a loan move away and we can’t see that changing, despite this deal going south. He’s not been in first-team contention since a few cameo appearances earlier in the season. Raul Jimenez has been in brilliant form but Wolves really need an out-and-out goal-scorer.
