West Brom are in the hunt to sign former Wolves left-back Stephen Ward, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Albion have turned their attention to Sunderland’s Bryan Oviedo and Burnley’s Ward after missing out on Tyrone Mings.

Ward has made just three Premier League appearances for Burnley this season and according to statistics website Spotrac, he earns £28,000-a-week on his deal at Turf Moor.

Good move for West Brom?

Not by any stretch of the imagination would Ward be a good addition for the Baggies.

He is 33-years-old, hardly playing and simply isn’t needed when Darren Moore already has two left-back options in Kieran Gibbs and Conor Townsend.

It doesn’t help that the 50-times Ireland international is a former Wolves player as well.

Albion ideally have to sign two left-wingers before the 11pm transfer deadline and not waste their time on looking at players like Ward.

Likely to happen?

West Brom are being linked with a number of left-backs so it does seem as though Moore is in the hunt to bolster that position, with the view to perhaps loaning out Townsend.

However time is running out to sign someone and send someone out on loan, so Moore might just settle for what he has.

Albion fans will be hoping that’s the case anyway.
