Borja Valero has heaped praise on his former team-mates Chris Brunt and James Morrison after West Brom’s Instagram posted a ’10-year challenge’ about the long-serving duo.

Brunt and Morrison have made a combined total of 733 appearances for the Baggies since being signed in the summer 2007, one year before Valero arrived at The Hawthorns in what was then a club record deal.

The Spanish playmaker, now at Inter Milan, lasted just one season in West Brom’s first team before two seasons out on loan and an eventual permanent exit.

Although his time at The Hawthorns was brief. Valero was quick to rave about Brunt and Morrison for their contribution at West Brom in response to a post about the midfielders.

“Mozza, Brunty, what players,” he said via his personal Instagram account.

OPINION

It may have been a long time ago, and he may have played for some top clubs since then, but Valero clearly hasn’t forgotten his time at West Brom. The 34-year-old was obviously a player who had talent, but he just wasn’t suited to English football, and that’s why he was soon shipped off by the Baggies after their relegation in 2008. He’s played for Villarreal, Fiorentina and Inter Milan since then, representing the San Siro club in the Champions League this season. Brunt and Morrison’s careers have been completely different to how Valero’s has gone. They have stayed put in the West Midlands, helping Albion become an established Premier League club before their shock relegation last season. Both are still playing regularly for the side that they signed for almost 12 years ago. It will be a surprise to see them handed new deals at the end of this campaign, but both of them are proof that loyalty and longevity still exists in modern football.
