Championship outfit Falkirk are eager to sign Rangers forward Zak Rudden again after he returned to Glasgow following the expiry of his loan this week.

The Bairns’ manager Ray McKinnon hopes to seal another temporary deal for the attacker, 18, after his impressive form in the first half of the campaign.

“Of course he will be a big miss. He has done so well for us, but he’s back in Glasgow now,” McKinnon told the Scottish Sun.

“As it stands he is out of Saturday’s match against Partick Thistle, but we would love to extend his deal. When you’ve got someone who has scored eight goals, you don’t want to let them go.”

OPINION

Little wonder Falkirk are keen to take Rudden for the second half of the campaign. He has been a big hit at the second-tier outfit, scoring eight goals from 19 matches in all competitions, including a very impressive seven from 15 league fixtures. Given that he does not turn 19 until next month, Rudden is destined for big things. Rangers are perhaps biding their time on sending the teenager back to Falkirk if they are weighing up other loan offers for the youngster. It would be to their advantage that the wonderkid is playing at as high a level as possible, and they should loan him out to an SPL club if there is the promise of regular football. That would be preferable to keeping Rudden at Ibrox as a rainy-day option that is unlikely to be needed. With Jermain Defoe joining Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty in the striker ranks, Rangers are well served for forward talent. There is little or no chance of Rudden getting a game. He should head out sooner rather than later.
