Rangers are in the hunt to sign Partick Thistle midfielder Aidan Fitzpatrick, according to the Daily Record.

In their live transfer blog (8.34am), they claim that Steven Gerrard faces a battle from English Championship side Norwich, who have already made their move.

They have offered a package that totals £400k, with £150k up front.

The Daily Record also claims that Mark Allen has personally monitored the midfielder “after receiving a number of rave reviews about his performances”.

OPINION

Fitzpatrick has broken through into the Partick Thistle first-team this season , making 14 appearances where he’s scored twice and added three assists. That’s been enough to get him not only on the map of the Rangers’ scouts, but also the desk of Mark Allen himself. He’s also impressed enough for Norwich to put a £400k package on the table, which is big for a 17-year-old with no experience at a higher level than the Scottish Championship. It means that Rangers are going to have to make their move fast if they want to stop him heading down south this January. Fitzpatrick is under contract until 2021 but Partick might well cash in this window if the right offer comes along. Will Rangers be willing to spend this much on an untested talent? It depends but Allen is obviously taking the youngster very seriously. Either way we expect Rangers to do more business this window after completing some stunning business already, including striker Jermain Defoe.
