It has been a remarkable few days for Rangers following four new signings led by the headline capture of Jermain Defoe.

Bears have been drooling over the exciting arrivals and the business done by their club as they prepare for a warm-weather training camp in Tenerife this week to get the new boys acclimatised.

One report that has emerged about a mainstay of the team in the first half of the campaign is unlikely to go down too well with the faithful.

Indeed, Rangers fans will surely be fuming as it emerged, as reported by the Sun, that Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria is set to undergo a medical at Reading today (Monday).

The 22-year-old had joined the Ibrox giants on a season-long loan last summer and had been a mainstay for the opening half of the campaign, when he made 23 starts among 28 appearances.

There was widespread surprise when his loan was abruptly cut short before Christmas amid claims he had failed to settle in Scotland.

That Ejaria should pitch up at another club just a few weeks later is a kick in the teeth for Rangers.

Sure, they have replaced the Liverpool man with a more experienced and proven player in Steven Davis, who will slot into the midfield for the rest of the season.

But Ejaria had committed to Rangers for the campaign and his latest imminent loan – his third in the last year – shows he was hardly homesick in Glasgow.

The midfielder appeared to fancy a change of scenery, and the way of the modern football world is that players get what they want and contracts mean very little.

It will leave a bitter taste with Rangers fans, especially if Ejaria goes on to make a big impact at the English Championship club.
