OPINION

McManus is right – this is a game-changing transfer that will have the Celtic hierarchy in a panic. There’s no doubt that Defoe still has what it takes to score for fun in the Premiership. There were enough Premier league fans who wanted their club to sign him to reveal how highly thought of he is. He’s obviously not coming for the money but for a chance to cement his legacy and to be part of the revolution that Gerrard is making happen at Ibrox. If he helps them win the title this season and qualify for the Champions League, he’ll go down in rangers folklore. That’s a pretty big motivation for the former Tottenham player to produce his A-game and he’s a goal-a-game striker in Scotland. With him and Alfredo Morelos, Rangers have the best strikeforce hands down in the Premiership and as McManus points out, Celtic will need to produce something themselves now or their fans won’t be happy. The problem is, where are they going to find a proven goalscorer of the calibre of Defoe?
