Steven Gerrard sent out a defiant message after reports linked Alfredo Morelos with a new offer this January.

The Daily Record reported that OGC Nice were preparing a bid of £8million for the striker.

However, talking in his pre-match press conference, Gerrard said that “nothing concrete” had been received in terms of transfer offers.

He added that “at this moment” Morelos won’t be going anywhere, but re-iterated that everyone “has a price”.

However, he also said that anyone preparing a bid “will be wasting their time”.

OPINION

Slightly mixed messages from Gerrard here. So everyone has a price and Morelos won’t be leaving “at the moment” but also that anyone preparing a bid will be wasting their time. Perhaps Gerrard meant that anyone preparing a bid of £8million would be wasting their time, with Rangers obviously seeing him as an eight-figure player now. With Jermain Defoe joining, there’s more cover at the top, but Rangers will not want to lose Morelos in mid-season and you’d have to imagine it would take a massive bid to force them to sell now. It’s way more likely that Morelos will leave in the summer, with Rangers having plenty of time to find a replacement for him to play alongside Defoe, who will have a year left on his contract at that point. Morelos and Defoe could get their first chance to play together on Wednesday as the Premiership season resumes after the winter break. Rangers play Kilmarnock away, while rivals Celtic host St Mirren.
