Steven Gerrard delivered mixed news for Rangers fans ahead of the Premiership resuming on Wednesday night.

Left-back Borna Barisic is back after a prolonged period out with injury but centre-back Connor Goldson will not play.

Gerrard said the 6’3″ colossus was “close” but that the Killie game would be too soon.

Gerrard was talking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game on Wednesday night.

Getting Barisic back is great news for Rangers, with the left-back position being a constant source of problems for Steven Gerrard. Barisic has only played nine Premiership games this season and missed more than half the season with a calf injury. Getting him back is a big boost as Gerrard gets set to try and overhaul the game advantage Celtic have at the top of the Premiership. Gerrard has more cover at centre-back, although Goldson will be a miss. It means that two from Joe Worrall, Nikola Katic and Gareth McAuley will get to play tomorrow night, with Goldson likely back for the game against Livingston on Sunday. The Kilmarnock clash will be the first competitive game back for Rangers since the winter break after their cup game was postponed on Friday, although they did play the friendly against Helsinki at the weekend. Hopefully that will be enough to have them match fit for tonight’s crucial clash.
