OPINION
Former Celtic winger Davie Provan penned an inflammatory comment piece in the Scottish Sun on Sunday, that claimed Rangers’ spending this January was “criminal”.
He said that if Dave King was picking up even half of Jermain Defoe’s wages then he should be “sectioned” and that the club would “take another liquidation to stop Celtic winning 10-in-a-row”.
Provan said that Celtic’s complacency was letting Rangers in the back door and his column got a lot of people talking, with both sets of fans weighing in on the debate.
Bill Young, from RockSport Radio said the column was “emotive” and showed a “lack of common” sense and both sets of fans piled on to give their views.
One thing is certain, the arrival of Steven Gerrard and the business that he’s done this January has got Celtic fans worried and hitting out at the finances of their rivals seems to be the easy route to take.
However, having said that, Rangers are spending a lot of money to try to find the pot of gold at the end of the Premiership rainbow.
If they win the league and cash in on the Champions League then it will surely pay-off… But if they don’t?
Here are the best reactions from both Celtic and Rangers fans to Provan’s comments:
Just read Davie Provan's article today, yet another veiled where's the money coming from enquiry. Immotive talk of a 2nd liquidation and lack of common sense, loans keeping the light on at Ibrox. Read deeper and it always seems to be Celtic complacency that drives the comments.

Because it wouldn't matter where ot came from Celtic Fans wouldn't accept it. Not my words but those of Gerry Collins, so no point in holding any discussion or debate.

As soon as Rangers are snapping at the heals of Celtic you can see them pundits and fans alike crawling out the woodwork looking for an angle to belittle Rangers and there performances of late. They should be looking at there own state of affairs.

Weren't interested in our affairs off the park until we started producing the goods on it. The fear is oozing out of them all. Love it!

If, and it is if, rangers are paying 65000 a week for defoe then it seems fair to wonder where that money is coming from given previous statements from King around soft loans and needing more funding to keep the lights on. Unlike others I don't claim to be a fiscal guru.
