Rangers have announced that Jamie Barjonas has joined Raith Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

The Gers made the announcement through their official academy Twitter on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the first half of the campaign on loan at League Two Bury, making eight appearances south of the border before his return to Ibrox at the beginning of the month.

Barjonas, who made his senior debut back in 2017, will now join up with the Scottish League One side for the remainder of their promotion push.

OPINION

It’s a smart move to send Barjonas out on loan again. The 20-year-old was barely getting a look-in at Bury, and his lack of action was threatening to stagnate his career. At Raith he should be given plenty of opportunities o prove himself, and could become a very important player in their push for the Championship. The midfielder is approaching a crucial juncture in his career, and if he doesn’t start to show the Gers what he is capable of, he could find himself out on his ear. That would be a shame for a young talent who has come all the way through the academy system to make his senior debut, but it’s the harsh reality of professional football, and he needs to kick on and make a name for himself. He has the potential, and the pedigree, and hopefully with a few more minutes under his belt, he can force his way into Steven Gerrard’s plans.
