Celtic midfielder Lewis Morgan could potentially be departing the club this month as Sunderland are in talks over a move, according to Sky Sports.

The sports broadcaster reports on their website that the League One side are eager to bring the fringe figure – who has only made one start for the Hoops this term – to the club on a loan move until the end of the season, with boss Jack Ross keen on a reunion with the 22-year-old starlet.

Radio Clyde reporter Alison Conroy previously claimed that Morgan would not be moving to the Stadium of Light in this transfer window.

Good move for Celtic?

Seeing as Celtic have only handed Morgan one start this season, it is obvious that he is not in Brendan Rodgers’ immediate plans for the club. The best thing to do is allow the youngster to depart on loan to aid his development, especially at this stage in his career. He no doubt wants increased first team opportunities, and this is the perfect way to get that at the moment. There is no doubting his talent – and moving to Sunderland will help him enhance it.

Likely to happen?

Sunderland are currently in talks with Celtic over a move, so yes, a move does look very likely to happen in this window. The fact that boss Jack Ross is keen to get the young ace on board also helps their cause to sign him. He is of no use to Celtic this season, so do not be surprised if they negotiate a move for Morgan very soon. He needs a loan deal, and this is the ideal time to do it.
