Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Maryan Shved is undergoing a medical at the club today (Monday, 28 January) and that a deal for the forward will likely be completed in the coming days.

The Hoops have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old Ukrainian international in the past week with Rodgers having previously revealed that the plan would be to sign him and ship him out on loan.

Speaking on Monday at his press conference, the manager revealed that a medical was taking place already and that his arrival is imminent, all being well.

He was quoted by the Daily Record (28/01, 15:01) as saying: “I think there’s a medical that’s going on today.

“So hopefully over the next few days that can be organised. And then he’ll come back to here and we’ll have a look and talk through what his development plan would be and then go from there.”

Opinion

Shved is definitely one for the future – Rodgers has made that blatantly clear – and so the sooner that they can get him through the door at Parkhead to sooner they can ship him out to a club where he is going to be playing regular football. This has been a month of attacking reinforcements for Celtic, with Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo already through the door, but you can be sure that the Hoops faithful will be hoping there is still time for some more arrivals at the club, specifically to help bolster the limited options at the back. Celtic have approached this season with a focus on scoring more than the opposition but have still come unstuck with some poor defending. Injuries and suspensions have meant that Rodgers has often been forced to change his options at the back, with a lack of quality in depth, and so one or two new signings before the end of the season would do him and his men no harm whatsoever.
