Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers refused to be drawn on reports linking the Hoops with a move for Manchester United’s Scott McTominay but did herald the midfielder as a “fantastic talent”.

The Scottish Sun claimed on Wednesday evening that the Bhoys were keen on bringing the Scottish international to Parkhead on a temporary deal as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer considers sending him out from Old Trafford, having struggled to secure game time for the Red Devils this season.

Probed about the prospect of Celtic making a move, Rodgers did not go as far to say he was keen but was quick to laud the 6’4″ giant (source: Transfermarkt) for his performances.

He told Sky Sports News at his press conference: “I wouldn’t comment on any player we’ve asked about.

“He’s a very good young player, when he broke into the senior Manchester United (side) he showed that. He’s a fantastic talent but there’s nothing more to say on that.”

Opinion

Well, that is not going to help the speculation one bit, is it Brendan? The manager is quite obviously a fan of young McTominay and as is always said when it comes to transfer speculation, there is no smoke without fire. Have the Hoops made a move for the Manchester United man? Only those at Parkhead and Old Trafford know the truth but it sounds like he would be more than welcome if he was to move to Glasgow. His arrival at the Hoops would be a big boost for a side who need that little bit of quality in the midfield, Scott Brown not at his best and Olivier Ntcham putting in some mixed performances despite being such a regular under Rodgers. McTominay’s height in the middle of the pitch would be a welcome presence and would help the Bhoys grab a stranglehold on games in a physical sense. He is probably too good to be playing in Scotland, so if Celtic do move they could be onto a game changer this month.
