Tam McManus shared that it was fake news that Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna had arrived in Glasgow ahead of a possible transfer to Celtic.

The BBC pundit, who frequently appears on Sportsound,  issued the two-word response after being asked whether the 22-year-old was actually in Glasgow.

The supporter asked the question after rumours circulated about the possible transfer on Twitter with several posted photos claiming McKenna was in the area.

“No. That’s fake news,” tweeted McManus via his personal Twitter account.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Celtic were set to revive their interest in McKenna in the January window after Aberdeen refused to sell the powerful centre-back in the summer.

OPINION

Celtic fans would love to see McKenna join their club but a lot of them have got carried away by the tricks of social media it seems. While one Hoops fan dubiously posted the picture of McKenna in a taxi in order to squash rumours that he was spotted in Glasgow ahead of a possible transfer, there will still be some supporters buzzing about the idea. It seems clear that Celtic are definitely keen on McKenna based on how regular they are linked to him however there’s no deal in place yet as it stands. That situation could change quickly but fans need to wait for more reliable sources to emerge rather than base their hope on claims he has been spotted in Glasgow. The 22-year-old centre-back would bolster Brendan Rodgers’ defensive options significantly as he is tough, powerful and seems a very consistent presence at the back. While it’s unknown whether McKenna will arrive in January, one thing is certain, supporters will be thrilled if that signing comes to fruition.
