Celtic midfielder Ewan Henderson has agreed the terms of a new contract with the club, it has been confirmed.

The Hoops announced on their official Twitter account and website that Henderson, 18, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal that runs until the summer of 2022.

There’s nothing Bhoys like more than seeing an academy player flourish in the first team and Henderson gave a glimpse of his talent in last week’s Scottish Cup triumph against St Mirren. The teenager came off the bench with 20 minutes remaining and set up Timothy Weah’s goal – the fourth of the night – with a delightful through ball. The road to a regular first team role is fraught with difficulty at Parkhead, where competition for places is so intense. But Henderson does at least have plenty of inspiration, with the club’s three outstanding players this season  – Kieran Tierney, James Forrest and Callum McGregor – all products of the flourishing youth set-up. Only time will tell if Henderson can make the grade at Parkhead in a way this his brother Liam, who is four years older, could not. The 22-year-old is now playing in Italy after signing a four-year contract with Hellas Verona last summer.
