Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has a problem at right-back, that much has become very clear over the course of the season so far.

His first-choice player in that position has always been Mikael Lustig, who has now entered the seventh year of his tenure at Parkhead, but the Sweden international is in decline.

Age is catching up to the 32-year-old, who is nowhere near the player he used to be, and that is causing problems for Rodgers this season, with Cristian Gamboa the only other natural right-back in the squad.

Obviously it will be extremely hard for Rodgers to fix this problem position this month, and he may have to last until summer with Lustig as his first-choice before a long-term solution can be put in place.

If he does decide to wait until summer, then there is one player who would be the perfect candidate, and would no doubt be a welcome choice among fans as well: Everton star Seamus Coleman.

The Republic of Ireland international has become something of a club legend at Goodison Park since joining for pennies from Sligo Rovers in 2009.

The 30-year-old talisman has gone on to play 276 times for the Toffees, becoming one of the Premier League’s most-consistent right-backs during his time on Merseyside.

However, Coleman’s stock is slowly beginning to diminish at Goodison, with his performances this season not up to standard, and a summer exit is not out of the question.

Despite his ailing form in the Premier League, there is absolutely no doubt that Coleman would be a fantastic addition for Celtic and would solve Rodgers’ problems at right-back – for a few years at least.

Considering his age it would likely not be too costly a deal for the Hoops either, and they must lay the groundwork to make it happen at the end of the season.

It is an absolute no-brainer, with Coleman having the ability to become a Celtic favourite very quickly at Parkhead.
