Scott Allan could make a stunning move from Celtic to Rangers this month ahead of his contract expiring in the summer, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster claim there is no future at Parkhead for the 27-year-old and it “seems certain” he will leave the club during the January window.

The BBC moot the possibility of a return to Hibernian for Allan and report a shock transfer to Ibrox cannot be ruled out given Steven Gerrard’s need for a number 10.

OPINION

Allan is far too good to be sat on his backside doing nothing at Parkhead. He is entering his peak and needs to be playing regular football. Sure, he might not be good enough to knock the likes of Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Callum McGregor off their perches, but he is wasting his career playing reserve team football and training with the kids. Could a sensational transfer to Ibrox be a genuine possibility for the Scotland Under-21 international, who showed while on loan at Hibs and Dundee last season that he can make a big impact in the SPL? As the BBC report, Allan’s statistics were extremely impressive – his 35 matches for both clubs yielded four goals and 14 assists, and across the season only John McGinn and James Tavernier produced more successful through-balls. Transfers between Celtic and Rangers are very rare, but Allan’s contract situation makes it more likely. It could be a great deal if Rangers pulled it off.
