Graham Roberts has suggested that Tottenham should sign West Brom forward Jay Rodriguez.

The 29-year-old has been in good form for the Baggies in the Championship this season, scoring 13 goals in 27 league appearances.

According to the Guardian, Darren Moore slapped a £20million price-tag on the striker’s head in the summer, but Spurs legend Roberts believes that it might be a price worth paying with Harry Kane now ruled out for the next two months.

“Why not Jay Rodriguez? Poch has coached him before,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night, in response to a post about who Spurs should sign amid Kane’s injury blow.

OPINION

Rodriguez may have play for Pochettino during their days at Southampton, but that shouldn’t be the sole reason why a player is signed. Pochettino has worked with a lot of players in his career, good and bad. Rodriguez is hardly among the bad bunch, but he is not good enough for a team eyeing a top-four spot in the Premier League. There have been times this season where he has come in for criticism at West Brom this term in the Championship. Most of his goals have come from penalties, but his overall contribution and team play has been vital to Albion as they aim to bounce straight back into the Premier League. Spurs need to be eyeing up someone younger and with a lot more potential than Rodriguez, because it’s hard to see how he would be better than Fernando Llorente or Vincent Janssen. It wouldn’t be a shock if Daniel Levy doesn’t spend after Kane’s injury blow, but he really should. He’s going to need a new striker at some point anyway.
