OPINION
Jermain Defoe has not played a lot of football in the last few months, so it was good that Steven Gerrard gave the new Rangers forward a run-out in the first-half of the friendly against HJK Helsinki at Ibrox on Sunday. Although it was hardly a day to remember for the Bournemouth loanee as he failed to score a goal, he did have an impression on some Rangers fans, whether it be good or bad. Firstly, for the fan saying that the Gers should send Defoe back to Bournemouth, that’s ridiculous. Defoe did miss a good chance to get on the scoresheet in the first-half, but so what? It’s a friendly and it’s better he does it in this game than against Kilmarnock on Wednesday in the Scottish Premiership. It’s good that Rangers had this friendly planned. After the Cowdenbeath fixture was postponed, it’s a good game for players to shake of some of that rust from the winter break in front of the home crowd at Ibrox. Defoe would have benefited from this game more than anyone else in the Light Blues squad. Give him a chance.
