Steven Gerrard must axe Joe Worrall and ring a number of changes if he wants to name his best possible Rangers line-up to start in the re-arranged Scottish Cup clash against Cowdenbeath on Wednesday.

In total, Gerrard should make seven changes from the side that beat Livingston 3-0 on Sunday in order to give some of his fringe players some game-time, rest his first team regulars and hand Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe another chance to impress.

Worrall, 22, definitely needs to be axed from the starting line-up though after his woeful display against Kilmarnock last Wednesday that was followed up by a wasteful outing at Livi.

Wes Foderingham needs to get a game under his belt so it is best that he starts in goal behind a back-four of Jon Flanagan, Gareth McAuley, Nikola Katic and Andy Halliday.

Davis and Ross McCrorie should start in the centre of the midfield together with Scott Arfield ahead of them in the advanced attacking midfield role.

Daniel Candeias and Glenn Middleton should both start on the wings while Defoe must be given the nod to start up front as the lone striker.

With Middleton, Arfield and Candeias in and around him, the on-loan forward should be able to find the back of the net more than once against League Two side Cowdenbeath.

If Gerrard names this starting line-up then his side is bound to annihilate Cowdenbeath at Central Park and set up a mouthwatering clash against Kilmarnock in the next round.
