Wolverhampton Wanderers are in advanced negotiations with Atletico Madrid over sealing a record-equalling transfer deal for Jonny Castro at £18million, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Molineux outfit are expecting to wrap up a deal for the left back, who has been on loan at the club for the first half of the season, in the coming days and that the fee will equal the money spent on Adama Traore in the summer.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for Wolves during his temporary spell in England and it is said Wolves triggered a clause in the loan contract which would allow talks over a permanent deal this month.

Good move for Wolves?

A brilliant move for the club, who have thrived with Jonny on the left hand side of their defence.

The Atletico man, who has never played for the Spanish side after sending him straight out on loan after signing him last summer, has gone from strength to strength this season and looks right at home in the Premier League.

Some might question his £18million asking price – it is a lot for a left back who might not be considered fully established at the top level – but Wolves will not care one bit.

He has proven himself enough this campaign and if he continues at the same rate he has been performing so far he will be worth double that in a couple of years.

Likely to happen?

It certainly sounds like it and with the player and the club happy to seal a deal, only a shock collapse of talks between the two sides would see this one fall through.

Wolves have all but got their man for the long-term and they will be delighted.
