Wolverhampton Wanderers are set for a seven figure cash boost on transfer deadline day thanks to a sell-on clause included in the contract of Burnley striker Sam Vokes as his potential exit is reported, according to Tim Spiers.

The Express and Star reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that there was a 25 per cent clause included in the 29-year-old’s terms when he left Molineux back in 2012 and that despite conflicting reports over the fee Stoke are set to pay for his capture, with a value between £7million and £9million, the Premier League side are set to pick up a seven figure influx of cash.

Opinion

Who would have thought that a deal all the way back in 2012 would come to bring Wolves over a million pounds nearly seven years later? The Molineux outfit are hardly in need of the cash thanks to their wealthy owners but it should still be a welcome boost to the football club, who can use that money to be reinvested into either wages, more transfer deals or even improving the likes of the facilities at both the training ground and the stadium itself. Vokes spent four years in the midlands with Wolves but only managed to make 59 appearances and score nine goals and so to pick up a healthy seven figure fee for his future sale is quite an impressive piece of business considering how poorly he was performing while at Molineux. It might not be the bit of news that the Wolves faithful were hoping for on deadline day, with a new striker seeming like a necessity heading into the second half of the season, but it is positive nonetheless.
