OPINION

Wolverhampton Wanderers eventually prevailed in a topsy-turvy encounter against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, securing a 4-3 win at Molineux.

Diogo Jota scored a hat trick and Ryan Bennett thumped home a header to give Wolves all three points, cancelling out strikes from Demarai Gray and Wes Morgan and a Conor Coady own goal for the visitors.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo wasn’t able to see out the game after being sent to the stands for celebrating Bennett’s goal on the pitch with his players, but he will have had some words of praise for his team after the contest.

As usual there is much to be gleaned from the match, and This is Futbol has rounded up three things than can be learned from Wolves’ roller coaster victory over Leicester.

Jota is a man reborn

Jota certainly had a tough time getting to grips with the Premier League at the start of the season, but he is very much in the thick of things now.

His sensational treble on Saturday means that he has now scored five times in his last five games. He is a man in form and he looks unrecognisable to the player who toiled on the flanks earlier this campaign.

If he can continue in this fashion for the remainder of the season then the Wolves supporters will be extremely happy. His earlier struggles have already been long forgotten by them. He is undroppable for Santo at the moment.

Moutinho an underrated gem

Ruben Neves understandably gets much of the attention in the Wolves midfield, he is phenomenal after all. But it’s Joao Moutinho’s contributions alongside him which often get forgotten.

The Portugal international is a tremendous player who has taken to the top flight like a duck to water. He keeps things simply, unlike Neves, but that is why the two players compliment each other so well.

He was excellent once again against at Leicester, helping control the midfield and keep things ticking over for Wolves. His cross for the first goal was exceptional and he is very much a key part of Santo’s side.

Wolves must sign Jimenez permanently

He didn’t get on the scoresheet on Saturday but Raul Jimenez did everything but put the ball in the back of the net. He was involved in much of what Wolves did moving forward and was incredibly influential.

Jota stole the show at Molineux but he couldn’t have done it without his strike partner. The two players have a wonderful understanding and that was in evidence against the Foxes.

Jimenez remains a Benfica player, but it’s imperative that Wolves sign him permanently once his loan ends. He is so important to this Wolves side and is a far better frontman than anyone else at the club. He needs to stay in Wolverhampton beyond this season, that much is clear.
