Wolverhampton Wanderers have exceeded all expectations upon their return to the Premier League, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sitting in eighth place just past the half-way mark in the season.

Obviously there was a lot of hype behind this Wolves side after their waltz through the Championship last season, and they have managed to rise to the challenge of top-flight football with relative ease.

Not only have they got some incredible results, including wins over Chelsea and Tottenham, but their style of play has attractive universal praise as well.

If there was one aspect of their play which has not been so positive though, it is their goalscoring.

Wolves have had an issue all season in finding the back of the net, with 27-year-old striker Raul Jimenez their top scorer at the moment on just six goals.

That is something which Nuno will no doubt be looking to fix in the January window, which has now opened, and according to reports the club have already identified and moved for a target.

As reported by The Sun, Wolves are said to have submitted an £18million bid for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan in the Championship with Aston Villa.

While Sky Sports claim that reports of a bid are premature, it is most certainly clear that Wolves are interested in a January deal for the 21-year-old talent.

And such rumours will have top scorer Jimenez sweating buckets over his place in the team, with the Mexico international set to be challenged for his starting spot by any new arrival.

One of the biggest issues surrounding Jimenez is the fact that Wolves’ option to buy him in the summer from Benfica stands at £30million, a figure much higher than the touted fee for Abraham.

This is not to say that Wolves do not have the money to pay for both, but it is questionable whether the club will want to splash out almost £50million on two strikers.

Should they end up buying Abraham, or any other striker for that matter, that will surely cast a shadow over Jimenez’s long-term future at the club, and the 27-year-old will no doubt be sweating over that amid all these reports.
