Leeds United have made an approach to sign Wolves winger Ivan Cavaleiro, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent revealed in an exchange with a Leeds fans on Twitter today that United looked into the possibility of signing the Portugal international “before Christmas”.

Amid reports Leeds are seriously considering a late-window swoop for Cavaleiro, Hay explained the Championship club “need fallbacks” if their pursuit of Swansea City winger Daniel James fails.

Good move for Leeds?

No doubt about it, Cavaleiro would be a brilliant signing for Leeds. The winger has started only five league games for Wolves this season but has still managed to chip in with three goals and demonstrate some of the potency that made him such an integral figure in their promotion-winning campaign. A two-times Portugal international, Cavaleiro is blisteringly quick, technically sound and an immense threat in and around the box. He is proven in the Championship, too, after scoring nine goals and supplying 13 assists in the competition last season. Leeds could storm to promotion if they could push a deal for Cavaleiro over the finish line.

Likely to happen?

It would appear unlikely, especially as Leeds have already been knocked back. The one thing in their favour is Wolves are so ambitious that Cavaleiro could soon be deemed surplus to requirements. He has been on the bench for the last two league matches and could well be getting itchy feet.
