Everton have rejected a loan offer from Crystal Palace for senior striker Cenk Tosun as a lack of interest in a permanent deal hands the Toffees a blow in their own transfer plans, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Merseyside-based newspaper claim on their website that the Eagles made a move to take the Turkish international on a temporary spell but that Everton are only looking to ship Tosun out on a permanent deal, with a £20million price tag on his head.

With a lack of interest in his signing it is stated Everton’s own plans at signings have suffered a blow and as such there are unlikely to be any new arrivals at Goodison Park this month.

Opinion

It is quite easy to see why Everton have rejected Crystal Palace’s offer for the Turkish star. They have already strengthened one Premier League side’s attack by letting Oumar Niasse join Cardiff City – although the Toffees probably feel that the Bluebirds pose no threat to their league position this season – and seeing Tosun join the Eagles would be another rival profiting from them. Of course, Palace are much more likely to be battling with the Toffees in the division but with Tosun having failed to have made the grade at Goodison Park, is there anything to fear from letting him head to Selhurst Park? With a lack of other attacking options it seems as though Marco Silva will only be willing to let Tosun go if he funds a new arrival but what is the point of keeping someone on board who you know is not going to have the desired impact? Tosun himself will be feeling frustrated, so this really is a lose-lose scenario.
