West Ham are have held talks with Sheffield United over a £4m move for midfielder John Fleck, according to Sky Sports (live transfer blog, 2.56pm).

The 27-year-old was their Player of the Year last season and made the Scotland bench for the first time at the tail-end of last year.

He joined in a free transfer from Coventry in 2016 and is under contract with Sheffield until 2021.

Good move for West Ham?

They need some help in midfield and Fleck offers versatility, able to play through the middle or on either side. He’s made 27 appearances in the Championship this season and has impressed since joining the Blades, winning the PotY award and getting the call-up from Scotland. He’s a massively underrated player and we’re surprised more clubs haven’t been in for him this January. He could be one that West Ham look back on as a real bargain in the rest of the season.

Likely to happen?

£4million would represent a good profit for Sheffield United, who picked him up on a free transfer from Coventry and they could do with the cash. The fact that the clubs are in talks suggest that it’s very possible, although he’s a really important player for them and you wouldn’t think they’d want to lose him.
