As 2018 drew to a close it appeared as though the January transfer window would be a quiet time for West Ham, who did not seem to be planning any major business.

How that has changed in a matter of weeks.

The Irons might not have sanctioned any new arrivals or secured the sale of anyone just yet but with speculation circling about a number of their top stars, not least Marko Arnautovic, the club have been forced to take action.

As well as the Austrian, midfielder Pedro Obiang has been linked with an exit, Sky Sports reporting that the club are open to his sale so long as they can secure a replacement to help bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s options in the centre of the park.

The Hammers are unlikely to want a player of the same calibre and instead will be looking on how they can secure an upgrade to join the likes of Declan Rice and Mark Noble – so how about a Premier League giant with 260 top flight appearances who could be up for sale this month?

Step forward Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini, who the Daily Mail claim is up for sale under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt) giant certainly is not in favour with the new Old Trafford boss, having not featured in their last four Premier League games, but with his experience and presence would be one massive upgrade on the Hammers’ current options, not least Obiang.

Aside from what he would bring to the team – height, power and a genuine game changing options – imagine what Declan Rice, a star in his own right, could learn from someone of the Belgian’s experience and talent?

Fellaini’s arrival would be a huge coup and a next level arrival which will have East London erupting both when he signs and on match day – Pellegrini needs to roll the dice and get this deal done.
