Tottenham must rev up their reported pursuit of Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez as soon as possible because London rivals West Ham are reportedly circling the player.

Spurs were reported as being in the hunt to sign the 22-year-old in red-hot form this season back in November by El Pais and that they may have spend £37.6million in order to get him.

However after losing Harry Kane to injury until March, which was confirmed by Spurs’ official Twitter account, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are even more desperate for a new lethal finisher than ever before.

Gomez would fit the bill perfectly as not only is he set to get better due to being only 22-years-old, he could hit the ground running upon signing due to the impressive form he is already in.

The 22-year-old has scored nine goals, while assisting five, in 17 league appearances for Celta Vigo this season and given his strength in the air combined with the fact he so composed in front of goal, Spurs must secure his services.

Yet Pochettino’s side need to act as soon as possible not just because of losing Kane to injury but because the Hammers are reportedly considering him as an option to replace Marko Arnautovic if he leaves.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that the Hammers are lining up a move for Gomez if Arnautovic does indeed leave to join Shanghai SIPG who recently had a £35million bid rejected for him.

So when you consider that The Sun are confidently reported that Arnautovic will seal a move to the Chinese club by the end of week, it’s likely the Hammers will at least try their chances when it comes to signing Gomez.

This means Spurs are at risk of missing out on the forward to their London rivals and acquiring the ideal new forward if they don’t rev up their pursuit and act as soon as possible.
