Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah is at the heart of a transfer battle between German rivals Hoffenheim and Borussia Monchengladbach as the Bundesliga outfits look take more English talent to the continent, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the six-foot-tall (source: Transfermarkt) 21-year-old, who is currently on loan at Championshio side Sheffield Wednesday, has been identified as a future star and is firmly on the radar in Germany.

It is stated that Monchengladbach have lined Onomah up as a replacement for Swiss international Denis Zakaria, who is said to be expected to leave in the summer for a £25million deal.

Opinion

Onomah has just over 30 appearances for Tottenham during his fledgling career and has been touted as one for the future – but is his lack of game time in north London a signal that he might not make it? The fact he is still playing Championship football might say everything that you need to know about his progress and unless he has improved significantly over the last six months he is hardly going to force his way into the reckoning under Mauricio Pochettino. If he was so good then why have Spurs not recalled him from his loan spell to help cover the loss of options in the centre of the park through injury and illness? Only Pochettino knows the answer but it does not take a genius to realise he is not at the desired level for the Spurs first team. If Monchengladbach have £25million burning a hold in their pocket come the summer then Tottenham could milk them for a hefty fee for Onomah, who would not really be much of a loss in north London.
