Tottenham may not have signed anyone in the summer transfer window, but that does not mean that signing anyone this time around should be out of the question.
Seeing as Mousa Dembele has recently departed North London for the Chinese Super League, swooping for another central midfielder would be a wise move by boss Mauricio Pochettino.
One player they should look at to fill the void left by the talented Belgian is Jonas Hofmann, who currently plays in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hofmann is a player who is not that well-known in the Premier League, but he really would make a fantastic addition to this Spurs team.
Dele Alli could shift from midfield to spearheading the attack in Harry Kane’s enforced absence, which means a need for another player in this position is paramount.
Having scored six goals and provided seven assists in 15 appearances for the German club, it is safe to say that Hofmann is a player who clearly knows how to make an impact.
Those are quite impressive figures for someone who largely operates in the middle of the park, so Pochettino must move swiftly for the midfield magician.
The Bundesliga is full of high-quality players who feature for top teams, so there is no doubting Hofmann’s ability to adapt to the high standards of the Premier League.
Moussa Sissoko’s injury has highlighted the need for a midfielder even more, so this swoop is essentially a no-brainer.
The German ace is skilful, energetic and full of pace, and his versatility – having operated as a winger in the past – is an attribute that would impress Pochettino hugely.
He will need to pull out all of the stops to ensure that this is a player that gets on their books, as Spurs fans would surely drool at the prospect of such a talent joining them at their club.
