Barcelona are hoping to complete a deal for midfielder Adrien Rabiot this week, with PSG willing to let him go for just £13.5million ahead of his contract expiring in the summer, according to Marca.

However, the report that states that a deal that Barcelona were once confident about his now a source of “constant worry” amid fears they might lose him.

And it’s surely time for Tottenham to make a serious play for the 23-year-old who would be a sensational signing for Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino.

In a week when Mousa Dembele has jetted to Hong Kong to complete a deal with a Chinese club, for a reported fee of £9-£11million, bagging a quality replacement like Rabiot, for hardly any more money, would be a masterstroke by Levy.

They were reported to be in talks with the player and were willing to sanction a permanent move for him earlier in January.

A full France international, Rabiot’s got Champions League experience and like Dembele is a strong midfielder and very hard to knock off the ball.

In Harry Winks and Eric Dier, Pochettino has options in central midfield, but what they really need is a marquee signing, a player that can provide a lift just when they need it.

And a player they can build a team around.

The 6ft 3in powerhouse is the perfect Dembele replacement and Levy must once-again show his class in the transfer window by ensuring he comes to north London instead of Spain this January.
