Tottenham know that they are in need of a new forward this month and it seems as though manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep all his bases covered with someone who is versatile enough to play in a variety of positions.

He already has a number of multi-faceted talents on his hand, especially in attack, with the likes of Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura able to rotate among forward roles depending on where the manager needs them.

They definitely need someone else on their books now though with Harry Kane out through injury and Son on international duty and it appears as though PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn could be that man, the Sun claiming that they are joined by Manchester United in hunting a £25million deal for the 21-year-old.

Young, a Dutch international and a serious threat up front – with 10 goals and nine assists in 25 appearances – it is easy to see why the Premier League rivals are chasing his capture but Pochettino and Daniel Levy can get Wembley bouncing with a move for the 21-year-old.

He is the epitome of what Spurs should be looking for this month and his price tag is well within reason, Tottenham knowing they have to adhere to a strict budget courtesy of their new stadium.

If the Lilywhites can get this move done it would be a real statement of intent to the rest of the division, not to mention a mental victory over Manchester United.

Bergwijn is a prime Tottenham signing and the fans would erupt if he arrived in north London before the end of January.
