Tottenham are plotting to splash out an eight figure fee of £30million for Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler as they lead French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain for his capture, according to ESPN.

The broadcaster claim on their website that the Lilywhites have been tracking the versatile 22-year-old, who regularly plays on the right of the midfield but has also featured centrally and in a defensive role, with a number of scouting missions and are readying to secure his signing in the summer.

It is stated that PSG are keen on the Spanish ace, who appeared in all of his club’s Champions League games this season, but that Tottenham’s ability to offer regular game time means they lead the Ligue 1 giants.

Good move for Tottenham?

At 22-years-old he is very much one who will need work to develop and get bedded into the Premier League but his regular playing time in both La Liga and the Champions League suggests he is ready for that particular battle.

His versatility is likely a huge selling point for Tottenham, who need players who can cover in a variety of positions when injury strikers – especially in the middle of the pitch.

The only question is whether he will be expected to fill in as a makeshift midfielder more often than his natural right wing role, with a number of options already available to Mauricio Pochettino.

The £30million price tag is also going to throw up some red flags but that is the price you pay for proven talent with plenty of potential to improve.

Likely to happen?

This is one for the summer and so a lot can change between now and the end of the season but with Tottenham leading the way it seems to be in their hands.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League would ruin their chances and so that is an absolute must, while PSG are not going to let him go without a fight if they really are that keen.

One to watch for Spurs fans.
