Tottenham have been handed a big boost in their hopes of keeping Christian Eriksen this summer as Real Madrid refuse to battle with the Lilywhites over trying to prise him away from north London, according to AS.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that the Danish international was hotly pursued by the Spanish giants but with Spurs slapping a mega-money price tag on his head, they are not going to try and fight the Premier League outfit and will instead shelve their hunt for his capture.

It is stated that Daniel Levy has slapped a €250million asking price on the 26-year old and that there are a number of clubs chasing his capture, with the favourite of Mauricio Pochettino seeing his contract expire in the summer of 2020.

Opinion

This is huge for Spurs if true, for Real Madrid seemed to be the most likely destination for Eriksen if he were to leave north London. The La Liga giants seemed like a natural step for the Danish maestro and the amount of interest that seemed to be held in Eriksen by Los Blancos appeared to make a move seem more likely than not in the future. If the Spaniard’s are no longer in the hunt then it is excellent news for those at Spurs, although there are likely to be plenty of other sides keen on snapping up his signature after his impressive performances in the Premier League. One thing seems certain and that is that Tottenham are sitting on a goldmine of talent. If they manager to keep a hold of him he will continue to provide goals and assists week in, week out. If he does go, then it will be for a hefty price that will give the Lilywhites some serious financial clout moving forward. Maybe not entirely a win-win – fans would love to see him stay – but not far off either.
